Wazito FC is set to face Migori Youth in an intense Promotion/Relegation playoff for the FKF Premier League. The first leg of the playoff will take place at Migori County Stadium this Saturday, July 15th, 2023.
Migori Youth, established just seven years ago, will be hosting the crucial match at their home ground, Migori County Stadium, aiming to secure top-tier status. The kickoff is scheduled for 3 pm. The second leg will be held at Muhoroni Sub County Stadium a week later, determining the 18th team for the upcoming 2023/24 season of the FKF Premier League.
Migori Youth earned their spot in the playoff after surpassing Mara Sugar FC, finishing third behind Shabana FC and Murang’a Seals. On the other hand, Wazito FC, who ended the recent FKF Premier League season in 16th place, will be determined to maintain their status in the top tier as they enter the new campaign.
Ezekiel Odera, the coach of Wazito FC, recognizes the challenge posed by their opponents and has alerted his players to the importance of the upcoming match. He emphasized the significance of playing in the top league for their career progression.
"I have stressed to my players that their resumes can only improve by competing in the top league. We have been training diligently, and every player understands that returning to the NSL (National Super League) would decrease their value in the transfer market. Therefore, they must fight and secure victory in the first leg," stated Odera.
Odera also acknowledged the team's tremendous efforts towards the end of the season to avoid automatic relegation and urged his players not to let all their hard work go to waste.
"We fought hard in the final matches of the league to evade relegation. We don't want all that effort to be in vain by losing to Migori Youth. That's why this clash is a do-or-die situation for us," he added.
