Football Kenya Federation through the President, Nick Mwendwa launched a FIFA-sponsored initiative aimed at growing the standards of women’s football in the country.
The initiative, dubbed Living Football was held yesterday at the Kasarani Annex and aims to grow girls wholesomely in football and impart life skills to enable them to live a quality life.
“This Program is not just a football activity. It also aims to grow girls and show them how to work together because football is a team sport.” Said the FKF President during the launch of the event.
Since children spent most of their time in school, the program aims to equip teachers with the skills necessary to nurture girls into future superstars.
‘This event allows us to nurture our girls and the teachers that are here will be trained so that every year, they can bring the girls and as they grow we will pick the superstars that will form the girls’ U-15 national team,” Mwendwa said.
Mwendwa urged all stakeholders to support the campaign to ensure that its objectives were met.
“These are the events that are the bedrock of football in our country and I want to urge the government and other people to help these girls. Let’s give them footballs, time, and formulate a (football) curriculum for them so that they can become better footballers than those that came before them.”
