Bujumbura City hosted Olympic Star at Stade Intwari on Thursday afternoon with Bujumbura City looking to break the jinx against them everytime they play Olympic Star de Muyenga.
Before the match,the two teams had met 16 times in various competitions with Bujumbura city only winning four times and Olympic Star carrying the day 8 times with four matches ending in draw but in a league competition Bujumbura have never recorded a win against the Olympic Star.
Omar Ntakagero coached side took to the field ready to step up the season after a series of poor performances that has left them at position 12 with only one win this season,Omar named unchanged squad from last weekend defeat at Musongati Fc with captain Moussa Ndikumana leading the team .For a third consecutive week ,Coach Diomedes Ngabo named unchanged squad having given him three wins in a row lead by captain Pascal Ramadhani .
When centre referee Ndayikengurukiye Soultan got the match underway ,Bujumbura city started with a high tempo forcing custodian Ramadhan Omar into making superb early saves to deny The cities an opening goal. The tempo of the match was well controlled as each team settled into the match but with Olympic Star who are yet to loss an away game this season possessing the ball .
Olympic Star marshalled the midfield with Emile Balama and Saidi Slim cutting short Bujumbura City attacks and starting attacks from the midfield for Olympic Star but failed to go past Bujumbura City defense under Dieu Merci Ndikumana that cleared all the balls .
With seconds left to the end of first half ,Emile Balama dribbled past Kevin Ndayisenga and Justin Fataki before getting into the penalty area where a tackle by team captain Moussa Ndikumana left him on the ground for Olympic Star to earn a penalty that was perfectly slotted home by Olympic Star captain Pascal Ramadhan.
The first half ended with Olympic Star leading one goal to nil thanks to a penalty in the dying minutes ,this was the third time consecutively that Olympic Star had gone the whole first half without conceding a goal.
Less was left to fight for in the second half as Olympic Star sat deep in defense to defend the one goal lead with Bujumbura city pushing for an equalizer and eventually a win though ,despite bringing in the clubs' top scorer Zouhaire Bigirimana he could do less to save his team from a third consecutive lose at the hands of Olympic Star.
Despite the heavy rains at Stade Intwari interrupting the match for some minutes ,match officials managed to officiate the match to completion with Olympic Star getting all three points .
The win takes Olmpic Star to position five on theog with 11 points and Bujumbura City drop to 11 with only five points , Bujumbura City are now winless in four consecutive matches against Olympic Star,The stars are now unbeaten in five consecutive league matches this season as Bujumbura City remain without a win at home in 2022/2023 season.
