2025 Spring K1 League Player Waiver

Tiebreaker Rules for Playoff Seeding:

• Teams will be seeded 1-12 for the playoff tournament based on the following criteria:
1. Overall Record
- The team with the most regular season wins is seeded 1st. The team with the fewest regular season wins is seeded 12th.
2. Head-to-Head Results (Between Teams with Identical Records)
- If two or more teams finish the regular season with identical records, then head-to-head results between these teams are used until teams gain an advantage over the others.
3. Head-to-Head Results (Going From Top to Bottom in the League Standings)
- Each team's record vs. the team occupying the highest position in the final regular-season standings, continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.
4. Point Differential in H2H Matchup(s) of Tied Teams

2025 SPRING K1 LEAGUE RULES:

Rosters: Initial rosters and team entry fees are due from each coach to the K1's Venmo account by December 11th, 2024. Each coach will fill out their roster on Google Sheets. All coaches must have submitted the team entry fee to K1's Venmo, as well as the necessary sponsorship information ($500, sponsor sheet, and logo) for the team. If a team does not turn in the necessary information by the deadline, they may be removed from the league, as jerseys will be ordered on December 13th. Coaches will be allowed to add players to their roster up until Sunday, January 12th. A second jersey order will be placed on Monday, January 13th. Players that are added to this second jersey order will not be able to play until their jersey arrives, typically by Week 4. All money that is turned into K1's Venmo, or to the K1 church office, is non-refundable.

Guarantee: Barring any unforeseen circumstances, every team will receive eleven regular season games, as well as entry to a single elimination postseason tournament, which will take place on April 27th and May 4th. The Round of 16 games and Quarterfinals are scheduled for April 27th, and the Semifinals and Finals are scheduled for May 4th.

Uniforms: Each team has a designated uniform, and players must wear the uniform that is assigned to them in order to play – no exceptions. This includes both an assigned jersey from Champro and an assigned pair of black shorts with the K1 Sports logo on them. Coaches do have the option to purchase a blood jersey for $30 before the season begins. If a coach purchases a blood jersey, a player on this team would be allowed to wear this extra jersey, but only if he loses his assigned jersey. This jersey would serve as a player’s temporary jersey until a player has found his original jersey or has ordered and received a new jersey from Champro. The blood jersey will only be applicable if a coach decides to purchase one for his team. Please note that if a player needs to wear a blood jersey for a game, they must notify the scorer's table before the game begins.

Warm Up: The gym will be open for shootaround on Sunday mornings beginning at 10:15 am. Teams may warm up once the game before them ends and must be ready to tipoff at their game's designated start time. At no time are fans permitted to be on the court to shoot, and players are not allowed to be on the court shooting unless it is during their team's designated game time. If a player is on the court shooting or dribbling outside of their team's designated game time for that day, their team may be subject to a technical foul at the beginning of their team's next game.

Number of Players: A team must have a minimum of four players on the court at tipoff, otherwise they may be subject to forfeit. If a team does not have four players on the court at the game’s designated start time, the clock will begin to run, and the opposing team will receive two points for every minute that runs on the game clock. If the team who does not have enough players is then able to field four players (or more) at some point during the first half, the teams will begin playing on the court at that moment. The clock will continue to run, and the points that were added on the scoreboard will not be taken off. If the game reaches halftime and is 40-0, the team who did not field enough players loses, and the game will be finalized as a scoreless forfeit. In the event of an unusual situation where neither team has four or more players to start the game, the clock will begin to run. The score will remain 0-0 until a fourth player shows up for one of the teams. From that moment, the team with four players (or more) will begin to receive two points for every minute that runs on the game clock. If the opposing team has a fourth player show up before the end of the first half, the teams will begin playing on the court at that moment. The clock will continue to run, and the points that were added on the scoreboard will not be taken off.

Fewer Than Four Players: In the unlikely scenario that neither team in a game is able to field four players by the end of the first half, both teams will receive a loss, and the game will not be “made up” at a later time.

Forfeits: If a team forfeits and does not notify the commissioner of their decision to forfeit by 8 pm on Saturday evening (the night before the game), they must pay half of the officiating fee ($75), or they will not be able to play the following week.

Game Length: Games have two 20-minute halves. All 20 minutes of the first half and the first 18 minutes of the second half will have a running clock. In the first 38 minutes of a game, the clock will only stop during a timeout or if an official asks for time. In the final two minutes of the second half, the clock will stop on all whistles, as well as made baskets in the final minute. It's important to note when teams are able to stop the clock and when they are not able to stop the clock in the first 38 minutes of the game. Timeouts will stop the clock, until the ball is either handed from the official to the player that is inbounding the ball or the ball is thrown from the official to the player at the free throw line who is shooting a free throw. This means that in running clock scenarios, the clock should begin as soon as the official gives up the ball. Please note that whenever a team is winning by 15 points or more, the clock will not stop in the final two minutes of the second half or overtime periods.

Overtime: During the regular season, overtime will be a two-minute period with stopped clock. Subsequent two-minute OT periods will be played as necessary. Teams will not receive additional timeouts in the regular season during overtime. In the playoffs, overtime will be a five-minute period, with stopped clock in the final two minutes of the period. In the playoffs, teams will receive one additional timeout per OT period.

Timeouts: Each team receives three 45-second timeouts per game. The clock stops during these. Note that if a team calls a timeout before a player shoots free throws (when not in the game’s final two minutes), the clock will start as soon as the ball is given to the player who is at the free throw line, and his ten second count then begins. The same rule applies when a team is about to inbound the ball (when not in the game’s final two minutes). As soon as the official hands the ball to the player, the clock will begin, even if the player does not immediately inbound the ball or shoot a free throw.

Substitutions: Substitutions will be allowed on dead balls, per college rules. All players checking into the game must check-in at the scorer's table beforehand. No jewelry is allowed - any items should be removed before games.

Benches: The only people allowed on a team's bench during the game are the head coach, assistant coach, team sponsors, and any players that are on the official roster. Friends and family are not allowed on the bench during a game. Any team who violates this may be subject to a technical foul, and any people that are not allowed on the bench, may be removed by K1 Sports Staff or officials at any point. Please note that only a team's head coach, assistant coach, or acting head coach (if the head coach is absent) may talk to the scorer's table. We do not want players swarming the scorer's table when there are questions or disputes. Please let the scorer's table work with the officiating crew, and then all decisions will be relayed to each team's coaching staff. If a team refuses to abide by these rules, they may be subject to further discipline.

Language: Inappropriate language is not tolerated in the K1 League. Players/teams are subject to technical fouls for the use of inappropriate language. In past seasons, some officials have assigned a language warning to the team after the first offense, but they are NOT required to do this. Officials are encouraged to point out inappropriate language whenever they hear it and assign a technical foul to that player.

Technical Fouls: If a player receives two technical fouls in a game, he will immediately be disqualified from that contest and will be suspended for the team's next contest as well, per college rules. Depending on the severity of a technical foul, a player/team may be subject to further discipline from the league, including additional suspensions, or removal from the league. This decision will be made by the league commissioner, as he may consulate with members of the officiating crew, scorer’s table, and/or pastoral staff to make this decision. At any point, K1 Sports, as part of Kankakee First Church, reserves the right to fine, suspend, or remove players from the league due to inappropriate conduct. Players who are disqualified from a contest must immediately leave the gym and are not permitted to be on church property for the duration of that Sunday. Any players who are suspended for any games are not permitted to be in the gym or on church property on that Sunday. If a player violates this rule, he may be subject to further discipline.

Discipline: A player who receives three technical fouls in a season must pay $25 to the league before the start of his team's next game, or the team forfeits their next game. A fourth technical will cost that player $50, and a fifth technical will cost the player $100. All fines must be paid before the team's next contest (via Venmo), or the team may be subject to forfeit. If a player receives five technical fouls in a season, he will automatically be suspended for his team's next contest. At any point the K1 League reserves the right to fine, suspend, or remove players from the league for inappropriate conduct. This is a church league, and players are expected to conduct themselves in a certain way. Any fines, suspensions, or discipline that the league issues will be communicated to head coaches. The head coach is then responsible to communicate with any players on his team regarding discipline. We ask that head coaches be the one to pay any fines to the league (via Venmo), as each coach can collect money from his team's players.

Dunking: Dunking outside of games is prohibited. This includes during warmups, timeouts, halftime, between periods, or after games. Players that break this rule may be subject to a technical foul, as we aim to protect our hoops and facility over the course of the season.

Jump Balls: There will be a jump ball to start the first half and each new overtime period.

Minimum of Three Games: Players must play in a minimum of three regular season games in order to be eligible to participate in the playoffs. If a player cannot meet the three game minimum due to an injury, he must physically be present on the team's bench during at least three of his team's games after the injury has taken place. The head coach of the team also must notify the commissioner of this player’s injury, so he can receive credit (goes in the book as all zeros) for future games via a special injury exemption. If a player does not meet the three game requirement, and then retroactively tries to argue that he could not play in three games because of a past injury, he will not be eligible for the playoffs. That player’s head coach must notify the commissioner of the injury before those games take place to receive a special injury exemption.

College Rules: Shot clocks are 30 seconds with a reset to 20 seconds. Free throws will be played on the release, meaning the shooter, and any other player that is behind the three-point arc, may not cross the line in front of them until the ball touches the rim. Any other decisions or rules on gameplay, that have not been specified here, will be governed by men's college basketball rules, at the discretion of our head official and assignor, Vern Turner, in accordance with the league commissioner, Brock Kant.

Championship Players: Any players that were on the roster of the championship team from the 2024 Fall K1 League, receive free entry to the 2025 Spring K1 League, if added to a team's roster. There will be no carryover to future leagues for free entry. Any players that are on the roster of the championship team for the 2025 Spring K1 League, receive free entry to the 2025 Fall K1 League, if added to a team's roster.
