Week five in the K1 men's league was one of the most exciting weeks to date, as several teams were vying for critical wins towards the playoff seeding. In the end, the league's top four teams would each leave the gym unblemished, but it wasn't easy for all of them. In perhaps the game of the year, Team 4 pushed Team 9 to the absolute brink, falling by two points on a last-second bucket.

Team 1 vs. Team 3
Team 1 picked up its fifth win of the year with a convincing win against Team 3. Despite trailing by double digits just minutes into the game, a steady diet of guards Chris Green and Ray Lawrence, along with John Martin and Dennis Koger, helped Team 1 roll to an 82-50 win. Green had 20 points to lead all scorers, while Martin chipped in 15 points and had nine rebounds. Koger had 16 rebounds to help Team 1 dominate the glass. For Team 3, Gavin Webb led the way with 13 points, while Jonathan Townsend had ten points. Although Team 3 continues to show improvement as the season progresses, they fall to 0-6 with the loss.

Team 1 vs. Team 6
Team 1 was back on the court for a second consecutive game and improved to 6-1 with an offensive display for the ages, defeating Team 6 by a score of 120-61. In perhaps the most dominating performance in the league this year, Team 1 had all eight players on the roster score, with five in double digits. John Martin had a career game, scoring 32 points and logging ten rebounds. Chris Green had 24 points, Dennis Koger had 19 points, and Dane Schlafley had 18 points. For Team 6, their shooting woes continued, making just nine out of 43 attempts from behind the arc. Ty Harrison had his best game of the season, scoring 20 points. Fontay Taylor added 11 points and Vince Harrison Jr. had ten points. Team 6 falls to 1-5 on the year.

Team 7 vs. Team 6
In a matchup of two teams that came into the contest with one win, pivotal seeding implications were on the line. A win for either team would secure them a top-seven seed, thereby avoiding a play-in game into the tournament. Following its game against Team 1, Team 6 came out a bit sluggish, and dug themselves an early hole. Team 7 took advanatge of this and led 47-30 at halftime. Team 6 would hit several big shots down the stretch, led by Vince Harrison Jr. who scored a season-high 35 points. However, Team 7 used balanced scoring across their lineup to hold off the late run from Team 6 and win by a score of 89-78. Patrick Cullom, Jaquan Boxley, and Shaye Carter each had 18 points for Team 7, while Darian Bosby added 15 points. Team 7 picked up its ever important second win of the season, and improves to 2-4. With the pair of losses on the day, Team 6 now stands at 1-6.

Team 2 vs. Team 3
Team 2 overcame a slow start of their own to defeat Team 3 by a score of 65-54. Team 2, who has been the surprise of the league this season, now stands at 5-2 and has their sights set on the number three seed, as they face Team 7 in the week six finale. All ten players scored for Team 2, who was led by 12 points a piece from CJ Link and Jamir Hinds. JJ Calvin secured eight rebounds to lead the way for Team 2 in the paint. For Team 3, Zach Mcguirt impressed yet agin with a 13 point performance. Shaun Ohrt and Marquis Spearman each contributed ten points. Team 3 falls to 0-7 on the season with the loss, and will look forward to their matchup next week against Team 6, who sits at 1-6.

Team 8 vs. Team 5
Two of the league's most exciting teams to watch squared off on Sunday in a game that meant everything for the playoff tournament. Team 8 entered the game with a 4-2 record, while Team 3 entered the game with a 3-2 record. Unfortunately for Team 5, a rough first half defensively put them in a 50-28 hole at halftime, and would be too much to overcome. Team 8 continued their impressive offensive display in the second half in route to an 87-58 win. Seth Johnson had yet another massive game, scoring 31 points and bringing down 22 rebounds. He would win week five player of the week honors. Gerald Duckworth had his best game of the season, scoring 21 points and dishing out five assists. Bobby Crivokapich contributed 16 points of his own to continue his solid campaign. For Team 5, who was without leading scorer Terrell Hendrix in the first half, they struggled from the outside, making just six out of 27 three-point attempts. Hendrix would still lead the way on the offensive end of the court, scoring 15 points in the second half. In his tough matchup against Johnson, big-man Lamarius Lillard scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds. With the loss, Team 5 falls to 3-3, and will conclude the season with a tough week six doubleheader. Team 8 improves to 5-2, and sets up a showdown against Team 1 next Sunday, who is 6-1.

Team 4 vs. Team 9
In one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the year, neither team disappointed in a game that was an instant classic. Team 9, who came into the game at 4-1 and tied for first place in the league standings, knew they would have their hands full against a talented Team 4. In a game that was 41-39 at halftime, and had several lead changes in the second half, Team 9's Ronnie Jackson hit the go-ahead shot with four seconds remaining to give Team 9 a thrilling 72-70 victory. Team 4's Kale Maupin was able to get a mid-range look at the buzzer on the other end, but lost his footing and the shot bounced off the rim. Team 9 was led by Tyree Mosley, who had 31 points to lead all scorers. Shooting guard Red Binion continued his impressive play with 14 points. Team 4's Maupin had 20 points and nine rebounds, while Justin Glenn and Collin Southworth each had 12 points. Team 9 now sits at 5-1, and is two wins away from securing the number one seed in the playoff tournament. They will have a doubleader next week.
