Week two was a very fun and exciting preview as to what this league can be. Several teams picked up their first win of the year, and several players made their league debut. As we look ahead to week three, a couple bigtime matchups are set to take place. Here is your preview of them.

Team 9 vs. Team 1
Perhaps the league’s two best teams will open up Sunday’s action at Kankakee First Church. Team 1 comes into the game with a 2-0 record, having won their first two games by a combined 78 points. However, they will face their toughest test of the season against the “veterans” of this league. Team 9 comes into the game at 2-1, but their only defeat on the season came via a forfeit, as they could not field a team in last week’s matchup against Team 6. Team 9 has won its two first games of the year by a combined 67 points. Don’t miss this heavyweight matchup to kick off Sunday’s action.

Team 1 vs. Team 5
After just two weeks of play, only two teams remain undefeated in the K1 league. If Team 1 is able to get past Team 9 in their opener, they will set up an exciting matchup of two perfect teams. Team 5 has been led by Terrell Hendrix, who took home the week two player of the week. His performance, going 11/14 from behind the arc to score 34 points, has put him on the watch list for a potential player of the year candidate. While Team 5 has shown their ability to score, they will have to slow down the offensive attack of Team 1 who is expected to be at full strength on Sunday, with the return of guards Dane Schlafley and Chris Green.

Team 2 vs. Team 8
Another matchup of winning teams pits Team 2 against Team 8. Both teams come into the game at 2-1, and will look to make a move into the top three of the league standings. While Team 8’s Seth Johnson and Bobby Crivokapich will give Team 8 the height advantage, don’t be surprised to see Team 2 find ways to score along with Team 8. Jared Harris, Braijon Thomas, and CJ Link all come into the game averaging double digits, and this is a team that does not lack any confidence. This is yet another week three matchup that you should not miss.

Team 8 vs. Team 6
No one has had a start quite like Team 6 has had. They lost in the opening week on a last second shot to Team 2, but then managed to win by forfeit against Team 9. Sunday should give us a better idea of what to expect from this group, who we have seen very little of. While Team 8 will be coming off of a tough game against Team 2, their strong inside presence should give them a distinct advantage against Team 6. Expect Team 6 to hang around, but for Team 8 to pull away in the end.

Team 4 vs. Team 6
Team 4 enters this game with a 1-2 record, but is two possessions away from being 3-0. Kale Maupin continues to dominate his opponents, averaging more than 25 points and ten rebounds per game. They will be a favorite against Team 6, who as we mentioned earlier, still has not had the chance to showcase their full team. In order for them to hang around, Alex Mitchner and Vince Harrison Jr. will need to shoot it well from the outside. They will also need to limit the second chance opportunities of Maupin and his Team 4 counterparts.

Team 7 vs. Team 3
A pair of 0-3 teams will close out the day’s action, in what should be a relatively even matchup across the board. Team 3 does come in as the league’s youngest team, but they have improved in several areas, as their lineup and playing rotations have become a bit more clear. Meanwhile for Team 7, a very difficult draw against three of the league’s top teams, has put themselves in an early hole record-wise. Patrick Cullom continues to impress on the offensive end of the court, and Shaye Carter remains a force on the inside. Look for Team 7 to be a slight favorite against Team 3.
