Returning to the carpeted courts of Kankakee First Church for week two, only two teams would remain undefeated after Sunday’s games. The league saw its first forfeit, a slew of impressive individual performances, and a pair of one-possession games to close out the day.

Week 2 – Game 1:
Team 1 – 76 (2-0)
Team 2 – 44 (2-1)

Ray Lawrence continued his strong point guard play, dropping 23 points to lead Team 1 to a 76-44 win against the previously undefeated Team 2. Although Team 1 was able to score with relative ease, their smothering defense set the tone of the game. At halftime, Team 1 led by a score of 39-11. John Martin added 16 points for Team 1, and Trey Johnson had 13 points, ten rebounds, and five blocks. For Team 2, J.J. Calvin had 13 points, C.J. Link had 12 points, and Jaheim Allen had 11 points. Team 1 improves to 2-0 while Team 2 falls to 2-1.

Week 2 – Game 2:
Team 6 – Win via Forfeit (1-1)
Team 9 – Loss via Forfeit (1-1)

Team 9 did not have enough players for an official game to be played. Team 6 improves to 1-1 with the win via forfeit, while Team 9 falls to 1-1.

Week 2 – Game 3:
Team 9 – 90 (2-1)
Team 3 – 48 (0-2)

Team 9 bounced back in a big way after the forfeit by defeating Team 3. The final score was 90-48. In a game that was never close, Team 9’s Quon Shaw and Tyree Mosley led the way. Shaw scored 25 points on 11/14 from the field, while Mosley made his league debut going 8/14 from three-point land. Marquis Spearman was the top performer for Team 3 with 15 points and five rebounds. With the win, Team 9 improves to 2-1 on the season. Team 3 sits at 0-2.

Week 2 – Game 4:
Team 4 – 76 (1-1)
Team 3 – 59 (0-2)

Kale Maupin continued to assert himself as one of the league’s best players with a 34 point and 19 rebound performance. Team 4 utilized his dominant play to run away from Team 3 by a score of 76-59. Tryston Schwartz was solid in contributing 15 points and seven rebounds, while Caleb Johnson chipped in 14 points. Michael Lonergan Jr. led the way for Team 3 with 12 points, while Marquis Spearman and Jonathan Townsend each had 11 points. Team 4 improves to 1-1, while Team 3 falls to 0-3.

Week 2 – Game 5:
Team 8 – 72 (2-1)
Team 4 – 70 (1-2)

In perhaps the day’s most exciting game, Team 8 and Team 4 had some of their top players shine. Team 8 picked up a huge win edging out Team 4 by a score of 72-70. Playing in the second game of a doubleheader with just six total players, Team 4 managed to put themselves in a position to win the game. As time was expiring, Caleb Johnson launched a three pointer from the corner, but it came up just short. Seth Johnson impressed in his Team 8 debut with a double-double scoring 24 points, and securing 11 rebounds. Bobby Crivokapich and Antonio Brooks both had 18 points and combined for 14 rebounds. For Team 4, Kale Maupin shined again with 28 points and seven rebounds. Collin Southworth was lethal from deep, going four out of six to score 14 points. Caleb Johnson also added 11 points and nine rebounds. Team 8 improves to 2-1, while Team falls to 1-2 with a pair of two-point losses.

Week 2 – Game 6:
Team 5 – 67 (2-0)
Team 7 – 64 (0-3)

Team 5 closed out the day with a key win against Team 7, by the score of 67-64. Although Team 5 jumped out to an early lead, Team 7 fought their way back, and had a chance at the buzzer to tie the game. However, Patrick Cullom’s contested three was just off the mark. For Team 5, they remained undefeated thanks to Terrell Hendrix’s incredible play. Hendrix scored 34 points on an astounding 10/14 from three-point range. His efforts would garner him player of the week honors for week two. Team 7’s Jaquan Boxley led the way with 19 points. Patrick Cullom and Darian Bosley each scored 16 points. Although the loss pushes them to 0-3, Team 7’s improved play will certainly put themselves in a position to win some games down the stretch. For Team 5, their win leaves them as one of just two undefeated teams. They sit atop the league standings along with Team 1 at 2-0.
