Nairobi County to Host Spectacular Street Football and Boxing Extravaganza
Nairobi; June 9, 2023: Nairobi City County is gearing up to host a thrilling sporting extravaganza on Saturday, June 10th, that promises to captivate residents and sports enthusiasts alike. The event, organized by the county government under the leadership of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, will take place along City Hall Way Road in the bustling Nairobi Business District.
The action-packed day will commence with the highly anticipated Nairobi City Street Football tournament, kicking off at 8:00 AM and continuing until dusk. Eighteen teams from all constituencies within the County will compete in this exhilarating football tournament. The county government has generously allocated a cash prize of Ksh. 50,000 for the tournament champions, with the runners-up set to receive Ksh. 30,000. The third-place finisher will be awarded a Ksh. 20,000 cash prize. Additionally, all podium finishers will be presented with trophies, commemorating their achievements on the grand stage.
Following the street football tournament, boxing enthusiasts will be treated to an evening of electrifying bouts from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The highlight of the evening will be the World Boxing Foundation super lightweight Women title fight between Kenya's very own Sarah Achieng and Edith Solidad from Argentina. Anticipation runs high as these talented boxers prepare to clash in a contest of skill, strength, and determination.
Notably, the Nairobi County government has partnered with the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission to organize this professional boxing event. In a remarkable addition to the extravaganza, attendees will also have the opportunity to witness the UEFA Champions League final live on the big screens. At 10:00 PM, football enthusiasts can cheer for England's Manchester City as they face off against the formidable Italian giants, Inter Milan. The inclusion of this high-profile football match demonstrates the county's dedication to providing a comprehensive sports experience for its residents.
Brian Mulama, the Nairobi County Executive Committee member (CEC) for Talent, Skills Development, and Care, passionately urges Nairobi residents to seize this unique opportunity.
