Goals from Philemon Otieno and Boniface Omondi were enough to earn Gor Mahia a much-needed win in a round 28 fixture of the FKF Premier League against Mathare United.
Philemon Otieno opened the scoring in the 25th minute but the lead didn’t last as Ronald Sichenje combined well with Khaleed Jumaan to restore parity in the 40th minute.
The tie was level at the break and Kogallo were under pressure going into the second half as they needed maximum points to stamp authority at the top of the league.
Being the dominant side throughout the game, the league leaders went ahead in the 60th-minute courtesy of Boniface Omondi. Kogallo protected the lead to the final whistle which saw them make their season’s tally 62 points from 28 games having won 18 drawn 8 and lost 2.
Elsewhere, title contenders, Tusker FC were held to a barren draw by relegation-threatened Nairobi City Stars.
The result saw the Brewers cede more ground in the title race as they now trail Gor Mahia by 4 points with only 6 games remaining.
In other round 28 fixtures, Police F.C cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win against Bidco United at the Police Sacco Stadium. Elvis Rupia opened the scoring in the 12th minute and sealed the victory in the 80th minute by completing his double.
Ulinzi Stars beat AFC Leopards 1-0 at the Nyayo Stadium to avenge the season opener where the military men succumbed to a 2-0 loss at the hands of Ingwe. Boniface Muchiri scored the only goal of the much late in the second half.
Kakamega Homeboyz also won their match staged at Bukhungu Stadium beating Wazito 1-0. Bandari held KCB to a barren draw making them fall further away in the race for the title.
Meanwhile, Bungoma-based Nzoia Sugar lived it late as Emoni Tanui’s goal in the 84th minute earned them all three points at the dreaded Sudi Stadium.
The Millers are currently 3rd on the log, 5 points off league leaders Gor Mahia and 1 off second-placed Tusker FC.
