AFCAFC Leopards Hoping for Continental Football as Kenya’s Oldest Competition Enters the Last 8 Stage

The Mozzart Bet Cup will enter the quarter-finals stage this weekend with fixtures spread across Saturday and Sunday.

Eight FKF Premier League sides will face off in what promises to be entertaining games and the race to claim a spot in the CAF Confederations Cup competition.

AFC Leopards will hope to bag the trophy and make a re-entrance on the continental stage after being absent for over half a decade. They will face Bandari in the last quarter-final which will be played on Sunday at the Kasarani Stadium.

Ingwe last played in a CAF competition in 2018 after they beat Kariobangi Sharks in this competition’s final, then known as GOtv Shield Cup. AFC Leopards would be knocked out in the first round of the competition by Fosa Juniors on the away goal rule after drawing 0-0 in Madagascar and 1-1 at home.

Coming into the game, Leopards are clear favorites having beaten their opponents in the league twice this season. They beat them 2-0 at Mbaraki in the first leg of the FKF Premier League and completed the double beating them by a solitary goal at Nyayo Stadium.

The first quarter-final will see Tusker FC face KCB at the Police Sacco Stadium starting from 1 PM in what would be termed the corporate derby.

Speaking in a prematch conference, KCB Coach Zedekiah Otieno expressed his confidence in his troupes and said they are in the competition to win.

“For us (KCB FC) we entered the competition to compete and not to participate. We had a tough encounter against MOFA in our first match and another tough match against Bidco United that we won on penalties,” said the KCB Coach.

“We are going to face another tough team in Tusker and that’s the beauty of Cup tournaments because you cannot expect to win without meeting top teams.” He added.

This match will be followed by Sofapaka and Ulinzi at the same venue starting from 3:15 PM.

On Sunday, Kakamega Homeboyz will play Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani from 1 PM to curtain raise for the second match between AFC Leopards and Bandari.

All games will be live on the Mozzart Bet Cup official Facebook page and KBC Television Channel.
