Pirates 11 (1-3-0) - MightyTuks 10 (3-4-0)

Saturday was a game of firsts. Jeff Steeves and his greasy mustache scored his first goal of the season, in overtime, to give the Pirates their first win of the season. The Pirates overcame a four-goal deficit in the 1st period as Kolija continued his streak of dominance scoring 6 goals in the opening frame. Zen Narin bounced back from a disastrous opening frame giving up 6 goals on as many shots including a knuckleball from the redline to shutting the door in OT to get the win. Jesper Hasen gave up the OT winner from the point after the Tuks surrendered 5 goals in the 3rd period and had to claw their way back to tie and force OT.

3 Stars of the Game

1st Star - Jeff Steeves

In his new role as a defenseman, Jeff scored his first of the season to give the pirates the win.

*2nd Star - Koljia Schinnder *

How do you score an unprecedented 6 goals in a period, 7 goals and 8 points overall, and are not rewarded with a win or a the 1st star? Hey this is the CIHL and wins matter.

*3rd Star - Tyler Kozone *

Pirates rode the skating of Tyler and his timely goals to victory. Tyler was a force on in transition and out of the corners, getting to the slot on almost every possession and wreaking havok on the Tuks’ coverage.

Observations:

The Pirates got scoring from up and down their lineup with all players contributing goals on the scoresheet. The Tuks, missing their second-best scorer, could muster enough secondary offence to keep pace with the Pirates. Zen played himself out of the slow start to keep the game close and the Jesper weathered the quick skating of Zak, Robyn, and Tyler in transition. The Tuks need to find secondary scoring outside of the timely Mark Selby and keep a closer gap on the Pirates' transition game to have a chance when the Pirates are firing on all cylinders.
