BREAKING NEWS: Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) under SC John Ohaga has this afternoon in its judgment quashed the decision of FKF NEC to nullify the results of the 2021/2022 season, thus the promotions & demotions from last season now stand. The ruling is good news for clubs that were to miss out on promotion this 2022/2023 season but obviously bad news for clubs that were relegated who now have to go down to lower leagues.

In its judgment the SDT reasoned that though FKF Transition Committee was illegal (having surpassed the Caretaker Committees tenure under the law), the football clubs participating in 2021/2022 season had LEGITIMATE EXPECTATION that the leagues were being run in order on the basis of the declarations of the Sports Ministry, thus it would be an injustice to deny these clubs promotions on basis of the illegality of the tenure of the FKF Transition Committee.

In a new twist, the SDT has also ruled that the previously disbanded FKF NEC, having been recently reappointed by that new CS for Sports, is also in office illegally because the reappointment has no basis in law after they were disbanded since disbandment should’ve led to elections for a new FKF NEC.

It therefore means the 2022/2023 season has taken off under an illegally constituted FKF NEC and elections will need to be held.

SDT has given the CS Sports 30 days to put things in order, which would mean holding elections within 30 days as a new caretaker committee cannot be appointed after the disbandment of previous FKF NEC.

Very interesting times ahead as to whether the season will now stall until things get regularized after which new fixtures will get issued.
