New signing Cornelius Juma made an impressive debut for Shabana FC, scoring a brace in their 3-0 win over Kajiado FC at Ildamat playground in Kajiado county on Sunday.
The lanky midfielder, formerly of Kenya Police, was one of the seven players signed by Shabana during the mid-season transfer window as the Kisii-based side seeks to regain promotion to the Kenyan Premier League.
Juma’s goals came in the 35th and 57th minutes, helping Shabana maintain their lead at the top of the FKF National Super League (NSL).
Peter Ogechi completed the scores for the Glamour Boys, who moved 10 points clear of second-placed Mara Sugar.
Shabana has been in impressive form this season, winning 11 of their 18 matches and drawing three.
They have scored 30 goals and conceded only nine, the best defensive record in the league. Juma’s brace adds more firepower to their already potent attack, which includes the likes of Boniface Mukhekhe and Mohammed Yusuf.
The win over Kajiado FC comes as a morale booster for Shabana, who are aiming to return to the Kenyan Premier League after being relegated in 2014.
The club has a rich history, having won the national league title in 1989 and the Kenyan Cup in 1998.
Shabana’s next match will be against 13th-placed APS Bomet at Gusii Stadium on Saturday. The team will be hoping to maintain their momentum as they continue their quest for promotion to the top tier of Kenyan football.
