Bugolobi-based NEC FC won their second straight match in this season's FUFA BIG League when they humbled Uganda Police Football Club 2:0 in a match-day 2 tie on Thursday. The 2nd tier newcomers - who lifted the Kampala Region FA league title last season to earn promotion - remain the only side with maximum points after two rounds of matches played so far after they won away to Calvary on opening day.
Captain Marvin Kavuma struck in the 90th minute to double a lead secured in the 58th minute by Magu Julius Kazibwe against a cops side relegated from the Uganda Premier League last season. Halftime at the Coffee Park, Bugolobi had been barren thanks to the heroics of Police custodian Davis Mutebi who had saved a Davis Ssekiranda penalty.
In the televised game, Kataka FC Mbale condemned Dudu Bosco's Calvary FC Midigo to their second loss when they triumphed 3:1 at the FUFA Technical Centre. Despite hosting their match behind closed gates - in line with their infamous stadium ban - Kataka still managed to edge their visitors from Lira.
Francis Odongo (56'), David Zaake (59') and Latif Ssenkubuge (90+4') scored for the Lufumbi boys while Victor Dickens Kilama pulled one back.
In Masindi, the Bunyoro derby ended in a 2-all stalemate with Patrick Kaddu bagging a brace for visiting Kitara Football Club whereas Denis Omedi and Arnold Sserunjogi scored for promoted Booma FC. Kaddu stretched his tally to 5 goals so far.
In Najjembe, another debutante Lugazi FC in beat Ndejje Univ. 3:1 to give their ecstatic fans joy in their newly constructed Lugazi Stadium. Brian Ssali (14') and Gerald Ogweti (64' pen and 90') scored for the Kawuulu Foundation lads while Sam Nsubuga got the students' consolation from the spot.
Elsewhere, Jinja North United fc held Mbarara City Fc to a goalless draw at the Kyabazinga Stadium while the Ankole Lions' western colleagues Kaaro Karungi FC edged visiting Soroti City FC 2:1 at the St. George Arena, Ibanda.
And, at the Gate Stadium in Lira, Northern Gate way Football Club and Luweero United Football Club played out to a 1-all draw with Isaac Balyejjusa scoring for the visitors.
NB; Only Kyetume Fc are yet to play a game having been given a chance to drop only one tier following their recent club licencing debacle with the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
