Mbarara City FC moved top of the table in the FUFA Big League on Thursday after securing a 1-0 win over Ndejje University.
Striker Henry Kitegenyi scored the lone goal of the game played at Kakyeka Stadium. The gangly forward tucked home from the spot ten minutes after recess.
The former Vipers SC forward was brought down in the area and he stepped up to take the resultant penalty.
The win took Mbarara City to 44 points, one above of Kitara FC who host Police FC on Friday at Kigaaya Primary School Ground.
Third placed NEC FC lost ground in the race for promotion after ten-man Adjumani Town Council scored an equalizer deep in stoppage time after Tonny Kiberu had opened the scores as early as the 6th minute.
The result leaves them five points behind leaders Mbarara City FC and therefore give chance to Police FC who are fourth a chance to return to promotion slots.
Elsewhere, Denis Omedi scored his 20th goal of the season as Booma FC defeated Kyetume, Jinja North United won on the road against Northern Gateway thanks to Samuel Mwanje’s lone strike while Luweero United were 2-0 winners over Calavary FC.
Kaaro Karungi and Lugazi shared spoils in a barren stalemate while Soroti City defeated Kataka FC 2-1.
